i didnt get a chance to ask him.

ATVs cannot be plated in most states. I have seen them in Rapid City rush hour traffic however, with South Dakota plates. In Mexico, you see them all over in small towns, sometimes ridden by girls in school uniforms with 2 or 3 passengers.
The U.S. has some funny laws. Since it has 4 wheels instead of 2 or 3 it is considered a car. In order to make it road legal now it would have to be equiped with air bags and meet safety standards. Consequently, motorcycles and trikes have to be open air. If they are completly enclosed then they would be considered a car as well.I thought of buying a yamaha raptor atv,but the guy at the store said i can only ride it offroad, why is that?
just because ya need a license to operate it, dont mean its a street legal vehicle. if ya need a dual purpose vehicle, look around.
Some states will, but there's street legal options that need to be added like turn signals horn and such, I know Utah and I think Montana does.I thought of buying a yamaha raptor atv,but the guy at the store said i can only ride it offroad, why is that?
That is the state law.
